The significant increase in the number of postal ballot applications, especially from government employees, has raised eyebrows and sparked discussions in Andhra Pradesh’s political circles. With around 5 lakh government employees applying for postal ballots, the YSRCP is facing unexpected challenges, considering its past support from this demographic.

In the 2019 elections, 1.5 lakh employees applied for Postal Vote and it’s estimated that around 70% of government employees voted for YS Jagan based on promises like the abolition of CPS (Contributory Pension Scheme).

However, recent dissatisfaction among government employees, stemming from issues like CPS and miscalculations in salary hikes, has led to a shift in sentiments. In particular, there is huge resistance from Government teachers and Anganwadi workers against govt’s suppression.

The YSRCP government’s handling of employee grievances, including attempts to relocate them from Amaravati to Vizag, has further fueled frustration and discontent. Despite warnings from employee unions about the government’s actions, the EC proceeded with deploying government employees for election duties.

This situation has left the YSRCP apprehensive about the potential outcome of the postal ballot count. The surge in applications reflects the dissatisfaction and disillusionment among government employees, who feel let down by the promises made by the YSRCP government.

As the election approaches, the political landscape in Andhra Pradesh remains tense, with uncertainty surrounding the impact of the postal ballots on the electoral outcome.
