Bollywood actress Dia Mirza Rekhi embraced motherhood much before she welcomed her son, Avyaan.
However, in an exclusive chat with News18 Showsha on the occasion of Mother’s Day, Dia revealed that Samaira hasn’t called her ‘maa’ or ‘mumma’ yet.
Adding that Samaira has her birth mother who she calls ‘mumma’, Dia said she has no expectations from Samaira to address her as ‘mumma.’ So what does she address Dia as?

However, in an exclusive chat with News18 Showsha on the occasion of Mother’s Day, Dia revealed that Samaira hasn’t called her ‘maa’ or ‘mumma’ yet. Adding that Samaira has her birth mother who she calls ‘mumma’, Dia said she has no expectations from Samaira to address her as ‘mumma.’ So what does she address Dia as?
The Thappad star revealed Samaira calls Dia by her name. “She hasn’t called me maa. There is no expectations from her to call me ‘maa’, ‘mumma’ or ‘mother’. She has a mother who she calls ‘mumma’ or ‘mom’. She calls me ‘Dia,'” the actress told us. She added that courtesy of Samiara, Avyaan also calls her by her first name once a while. “Thanks to her now Avyaan also calls me ‘Dia’ once in a while. He says ‘Dia mom’, it’s too funny,” she said with a laugh.
Dia also recollected the first time Avyaan called her ‘maa.’ Confessing that his first word was ‘tiger’, Dia revealed the first time Avyaan called her ‘maa’ was months later. “Oh my god, I will never forget that day. He said mumma much later. I think it was a good three months after he started to say words. It was a beautiful moment because all the flowers had started to bloom in the balcony and there were lots of butterflies visiting the flowers, and he was in my arms,” she recalled.
“I was showing him the butterflies and I was through the plants because there were three to four butterflies for him to get a closer look at it. He suddenly looked at me and said, ‘Mumma’, I was like ‘Oh my god! What just happened.’ Interestingly, my husband had his camera and he was recording me showing Avyaan the butterflies so we have the whole moment on cameras. It was magical,” Dia added.
Dia welcomed Avyaan in 2021, when she was 39 years old. The actress has often shared photos and videos of the little one on Instagram.
