Rita Devi, Thapan's mother, claimed in the petition that her son was murdered by the Crime Branch of Mumbai police and that he was brutally assaulted and tortured by the police.
The petition, filed through advocates Sriram Parakkat and Rajwant Kaur, has prayed for a probe by the CBI into Thapan's death.
The petitioner has also requested for preservation of CCTV footage and call data records (CDR) of the police officials from April 24 to May 2.
It has also sought directions for a fresh post mortem in Thapan's death.

"The detainee (Anuj Thapan, son of the petitioner) was mal-treated, and three degree torture were given by the police of crime branch, Mumbai in connivance with Salman Khan and later on the entire incident was given the shape of suicidal death," the petitioner stated in her plea.
