While Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) thumped Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to win the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) title, there was joy in the Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) camps as Harshal Patel and Virat Kohli won the purple and orange, respectively.

After being released by RCB and joining PBKS for a whopping fee of Rs. 11.75 crore; Harshal had a dream season with the ball, as he finished with a stunning tally of 24 wickets in just 14 matches and was not part of the playoffs either. Harshal took three more wickets than Varun Charkavarthy, who played two more matches than him.

Harhal Patel Creates History

Harshal Patel wrote his name in the history books as he won the purple for the second time in his career. The star pacer had previously won the award in the 2021 season while playing for RCB, in which he took 32 wickets, which is the joint highest wicket tally in a season.

Harshal is only the third player in history after Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Dwayne Bravo to win the purple twice. Bhuvneshwar (2016, 2017) and Bravo (2013, 2015) won the award while playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings, respectively.
