The secretary general of Lebanon’s Hezbollah resistance movement has expressed his gratitude to Iran for its “steadfast” support for peoples and resistance movements in the region.

During a meeting with Iran’s Acting Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani on Tuesday, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah thanked Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, as well as the Iranian government and nation, for their unwavering pro-resistance stance in defiance of sanctions and threats.

He also renewed his condolences over the martyrdom of Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian in a helicopter crash last month.

During the meeting, Nasrallah and Bagheri Kani discussed the latest political and security developments in the region, particularly those of the Gaza and Lebanon fronts.

The acting Iranian foreign minister traveled Monday to Lebanon, where he met with Lebanese Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati, Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib, and Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri.

He also paid tribute to Nasrallah’s mother, Mahdiyya Safi al-Din, who recently passed away, at her burial site.

The Lebanon visit was the first leg of a regional tour by the top Iranian diplomat that also took him to Syria on Tuesday.

Iran’s Acting Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani (C-L) holds talks with the heads of Palestinian groups in Syria on June 4, 2024.

In Syria, he has so far held talks with the Arab country's officials, including Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad, as well as heads of Palestinian factions.

He is also scheduled to meet with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in Damascus.

Bagheri Kani had earlier said that one of the main goals of her regional tour is to boost synergy among resistance groups in their confrontation with the Israeli regime.

‘Iran, Syria two main pillars of stability in region’

Later on Tuesday, Bagheri Kani held a press conference alongside Mekdad in Damascus.

He said his trip carries a message that “Iran stands by the resistance against the Zionist occupation as before and even more firmly than in the past.”

“Iran and Syria are two companions, two colleagues and two close friends on the path of developing bilateral cooperation, and are the region’s two main pillars of stability,” he added.

The acting foreign minister further said both Tehran and Damascus believe that the Israeli occupation is the cause of regional instability.

He also noted that he had traveled to Damascus to discuss with Syrian officials the latest developments in the Gaza Strip and find a “joint strategy" to stop the Israeli aggression.

Mekdad also said that the relations between Iran and Syria are in the best conditions and, "we emphasized the necessity of strengthening our ties after the visit of martyred Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi to Syria."

The Syrian foreign minister asserted, "We are working with our friends to stop the Israeli crimes so that the Palestine's aspirations will be realized and this is our historical position."
