Twelve people were injured after a Qatar Airways plane flying from Doha to Dublin reported turbulence on Sunday, airport authorities said. Eight of the 12 injured were hospitalised. In a statement, Dublin Airport said that the flight QR017 , a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, had landed safely as per its schedule.

Upon landing, the aircraft was met by emergency services, including airport police and the fire and rescue department, since six passengers and six crew members reported injuries. All passengers were assessed for injuries aboard the plane, and eight were then taken to the hospital.

As per a report by Daily Mail, the turbulence hit without any warning, throwing objects and people around the cabin. A passenger said, “It was the most terrifying experience of my life," while another stated, “People were screaming, and it felt like the plane was dropping out of the sky.”

“Some of the flight attendants had scratches to their face, ice to their face... one girl had a sling on her arm,” a third passenger said. “It was so scary... I am not in a hurry to get back on a plane I can tell you.”

The incident took place days after severe turbulence hit a Singapore Airlines flight from London to Singapore. One passenger was killed while others were injured in the incident. The flight was then diverted to Bangkok. The flight SQ321 left London's Heathrow Airport for Singapore, however, midway it encountered turbulence.

There were at least three Indian nationals among the 229 people aboard the Singapore Airlines flight. The traumatic incident in which the aircraft descended 6,000 feet in about three minutes, left a 73-year-old British man dead and more than two dozen other passengers injured.

Turbulence causes sudden changes in the altitude of a plane. Most turbulence occurs in cloudy weather with updrafts and downdrafts of wind, BBC reported. Another type of turbulence, known as 'clear air' turbulence, is more dangerous because it is difficult to detect.
