Snapchat working on feature similar to WhatsApp, will let users edit messages after sending

WhatsApp's editing feature for sent messages turned out to be a lifesaver when it was introduced last year. Similar to WhatsApp's edit message feature, Snapchat will also let you edit the sent message for a short time. In addition to this, Snapchat is also enhancing its AI capabilities, building on the My AI chatbot powered by OpenAI that was introduced last year. For the unversed, Snapchat's My AI chatbot was announced in February 2023, months after the launch of ChatGPT. From answering a number of questions to planning events, the My AI chatbot slowly became a part of Snapchatters' lives.

WhatsApp's editing feature for sent messages turned out to be a lifesaver when it was introduced last year. And the same feature might be coming to Snapchat, as per reports. The photo-sharing platform is also set to get a number of other features, including emoji reactions, map reactions, and new AI-powered reminders, as per a report in The Verge.

Similar to WhatsApp's edit message feature, Snapchat will also let you edit the sent message for a short time. You will have to edit your message within 5 minutes of it being sent after which the option will disappear and you won't be able to make any changes. In WhatsApp too, there is a time limit for editing sent messages.

But that's not all. In case of Snapchat, in addition to having 5 minutes to edit after the message has been sent, you will also have to ensure that the receiver hasn't opened the message. We all know how messages in Snapchat work - the receiver needs to tap on the chat window and open it in order to view the message. It is never displayed on the chat screen or in notifications. Hence, if the receiver opens your message within 5 minutes of you sending it, you won't be able to edit it.

The edit messages feature will first roll out to Snapchat Plus subscribers. Others might have to wait to get access to the feature.

In addition to this, Snapchat is also enhancing its AI capabilities, building on the My AI chatbot powered by OpenAI that was introduced last year. Users can now leverage My AI to set reminders for key deadlines, which includes a countdown feature to help prevent oversights. Moreover, Snapchat is introducing an option for users to design custom outfits for their Bitmoji avatars through AI technology. Additionally, new AI Lenses will enable users to transform a current selfie into a Polaroid-like image from the '90s.

For the unversed, Snapchat's My AI chatbot was announced in February 2023, months after the launch of ChatGPT. The chatbot is integrated into the app and was first made available for Snapchat Plus users. Eventually, in April, it reached all users. From answering a number of questions to planning events, the My AI chatbot slowly became a part of Snapchatters' lives.
