Currently, there has been a surge in swine flu cases in Assam. The Barak Valley has reported several cases in the past few days, and this has raised concern among the people. Authorities have issued a high alert and initiated an inquiry into the reported spread of the influenza virus. Well, to stay informed about the severe infection transmission, here are causes, symptoms and prevention tips to be aware of.
Causes of Swine Flu
Swine flu, caused by the H1N1 virus, primarily spreads through respiratory droplets expelled when an infected person coughs or sneezes. Additionally, touching surfaces contaminated with virus and then touching the face can lead to transmisson. Pigs are the main cause of the H1N1 infection, but human-to-human transmission is also common, especially in crowded or enclosed environments.
Signs And Symptoms
Common symptoms include:
Fever
Body ache
Fatigue
Vomiting
Diarrhea
In severe cases, swine flu can lead to pneumonia
Prevention
Vaccination Shots: Annual flu vaccination is the most effective way to prevent swine flu and other influenza strains. Consult your doctor to ensure you receive the appropriate vaccine. Practice Good Hand Hygiene: Wash your hands frequently with soap water for at least 20 seconds, especially after coughing, sneezing or touching potentially contaminated surfaces. You can also use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer. Clean House: Make sure you clean the environment around yourself and wipe down those surfaces you touch a lot. Maintain proper sanitization, especially if someone’s been sick around you. Cover Up When You Sneeze or Cough: When coughing or sneezing, cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or elbow to prevent the spread of respiratory droplets.
