YouTube to get hum to search songs AI feature, here is how it works

After Shazam, YouTube seems to be rolling out the ‘humming’ music search game for you. YouTube Music introduces a new AI feature that will allow you to find songs by humming or singing, even without knowing the lyrics. After Shazam, YouTube seems to be rolling out the ‘humming’ music search game for you. Android’s YouTube Music app is rolling out the said letting users easily find that tune stuck in their head, the lyrics of which they just can’t recall.

YouTube Music introduces a new AI feature that will allow you to find songs by humming or singing, even without knowing the lyrics. The feature lets you hum, whistle, sing, or play a recording of a song to figure out what it is.

Humming the way out

With the new feature you’ll see a new waveform icon next to the microphone icon. The icon appears when you tap the search button in the upper right corner of the app. Tap this, and the app will start listening. Clicking on the new icon will take you to a page with the words ‘Play, sing or hum a song’ at the top and the wave-like animation continuing at the bottom of the screen.

The new feature can search songs quite faster than Shazam. You just hum your favourite song, and voilà you get the music of your choice. Report from 9to5Google suggests that it has officially spotted the new feature in the YouTube Music application for Android (with version 7.02 or higher).

Critics argue that even after updating to the latest version of the YouTube Music application, “We couldn’t find the song search feature on several devices.” But it seems like that the new feature might take some time before it’s generally available to all YouTube Music users.

YouTube humming Vs Apple’s Shazam

From what it is understood, the ‘humming’ feature was first introduced by Shazam. Shazam can identify music based on a short sample played using the microphone on the device. It was created by the British company Shazam Entertainment, based in London, and has been owned by Apple since then.

After YouTube planned to launch its AI-based ‘Humming’ search option to find songs, it seems that the new feature can overtake Apple! It takes a few seconds to identify the song with YouTube’s new feature. The user can just have to hum a song and YouTube Music will be able to find the original song.

On the other hand Apple’s Shazam reportedly seems to often freeze. Also, you need a decent wireless connection for it to work fast.
