“I Quit” Match”

“The Phenomenal” AJ Styles vs. “The American Nightmare” Cody Rhodes (c)

Samantha Irvin does the ring announcements once both men are in the ring. The atmosphere from the crowd is absolutely electric as they chant for Rhodes. WWE production botched the graphic for Rhodes, showing an image of the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship and “TALENT NAME” in bold. The referee uses the microphone to explain the rules of the “I Quit” Match.

The bell rings, and Rhodes quickly kicks him in the midsection before dropping down and hitting an uppercut. Rhodes punches away at him in the corner before whipping him hard face-first into the second turnbuckle. Rhodes bounces Styles’ face off the top turnbuckle and punches him down. Styles reverses a whip to the opposite corner, but Rhodes slingshots over him and hits a snap powerslam. Rhodes goes for a Disaster Kick but Styles counters into an inverted atomic drop. Styles chops “The American Nightmare” and punches him. Styles has him in the corner and hits some chops before whipping him sternum-first into the corner. Rhodes drops to his knees with the wind knocked out of him. The crowd is UNREAL. Rhodes slides out of a slam and hits some stinging left jabs, followed by a Bionic Elbow. Styles is rocked. Rhodes hits the ropes and dropkicks him off the apron. The referee checks on Styles and asks if he quits. Styles growls, “Get out.”

Rhodes goes under the ring and pulls out a table to a loud ovation. Rhodes goes back under the ring and pulls out a second table. Rhodes sets up the table near the apron. Styles is on his feet, so Styles pushes him into the steel steps. Styles will not quit. Rhodes grabs him and sends him over the barricade into the sea of humanity in the OVO Hydro. Styles stands on the barricade and comes off with a double ax handle. Rhodes begins punching Styles into the crowd. Styles fights back, but Rhodes quickly cuts him off. Rhodes hits him in the head with a fan’s drink and rakes the back. Styles quickly sends Rhodes headfirst into a metal barricade. Styles drives Rhodes through a door, and they are fighting backstage. Rhodes bounces him HARD off the wall and punches him through a narrow hallway. Rhodes bounces him off a road crate. They are fighting in the Gorilla Position. Bruce Prichard is shown in the background. Styles chokes Rhodes with a wire, but Rhodes fights out of it. They make their way through the entranceway and are fighting on the ramp. Rhodes knees him in the midsection and punches him against a metal barricade. Rhodes has him back to ringside near the table, but Styles punches away.

They get in the ring, and Styles takes him down before applying the Figure Four Leglock in the center of the ring. Styles screams in pain, but he will not quit. Rhodes cinches in the hold. Styles desperately gets to the bottom rope, but there are no rope breaks or disqualifications. Styles pulls himself over the apron enough to get out of the hold. Rhodes grabs Styles on the apron and goes for a suplex into the ring. Styles counters out and suplexes Rhodes (and himself) OVER the top rope! Styles soon gets on his feet and stuns Rhodes with a Death Valley Driver onto the commentary table. Styles then hits him with a brainbuster on the table! Wow! The referee asks Rhodes if he will quit. Rhodes emphatically responds, “No!” Styles uses the microphone to hit Rhodes in the head and sends him into the timekeeper’s area. Styles walks over and talks trash to Mama Rhodes!

Rhodes is busted wide open from landing on the ringbell! Styles is pleased and shouts, “We’ve got a bleeder!” Styles punches him and rolls Rhodes into the ring. Rhodes fights back, but Styles quickly cuts him off and stomps the head. Styles talks trash to the crowd, and Glasgow responds with jeers. Rhodes fights back with some right hands. Rhodes hits the ropes, but Styles takes him down with a dropkick. Styles laughs as the crowd groans.

Rhodes is crawling at ringside. Styles bounces Rhodes’ face off the ring steps. The crowd starts to chant, “F**k you, AJ!” Styles tells them, in a way, that they are number one. The referee asks Rhodes if he quits. Rhodes manages to say, “No!” Styles grabs a kendo stick from under the ring and cracks Rhodes in the back and legs with it. Rhodes drops down to the canvas. Styles continues to unload with shot after shot from the kendo stick. Styles holds up a dazed Rhodes’ face. Styles demands that he quit this match. Rhodes shouts, “Hell no!”

Styles is disgusted and paces the ring, wondering what he can do to the reigning Undisputed WWE Champion to make him quit. Styles takes a belt and whips Rhodes with it a bunch of times. Styles tries to use the belt to wrap around Rhodes’ head, but the blood has made his forehead too slick for the belt to grip. Styles tosses the belt aside and applies an STF. Rhodes is refusing to quit, but the referee keeps the microphone in his face just in case he’s had enough. Rhodes appears to be fading and looks like he is unconscious. Styles releases the STF and says he should be declared the winner since the champion is unconscious. The referee is explaining that Rhodes has to say, “I quit.”

Styles goes out of the ring and grabs a water bottle before throwing it at Rhodes to wake him up. Styles grabs a black bag from under the ring and gets in. The crowd thinks it is thumbtacks, but Styles says he’s got something better. Styles reveals a pair of handcuffs. Styles handcuffs Rhodes’ hands behind his back, a la Mankind vs. The Rock from the “I Quit” Match at the 1999 Royal Rumble. Styles beats Rhodes with the kendo stick, but Rhodes won’t submit. Styles looks at Mama Rhodes and shouts, “It’s all your damn fault.” Styles goes to ringside and gets in her face. Mama Rhodes taunts him back. Styles pokes her in the chest, so she slaps him in the face a few times. Styles grabs a steel chair and threatens her with it before getting into the ring and beating her son’s back with it. Styles puts a steel chain around his forearm and goes to the apron. Styles goes for a Phenomenal Forearm, but Rhodes throws the chair in his face, knocking him off the top rope and through the table at ringside!

Rhodes has been able to get his hands under his feet to bring his handcuffed arms to the front of his body. Styles crawls over to the key and unlocks the cuffs. The crowd chants, “This is awesome.” Styles slowly rolls into the ring, and Rhodes greets him with a handcuffed punch to the skull. Styles is busted open! Rhodes sidesteps an avalanche and hits a throat thrust. Rhodes rakes the eyes and connects with a vicious Cody Cutter! Rhodes is absolutely fired up! Rhodes grabs Styles, shouts, “You’re gonna say it,” and hits the Cross Rhodes! The crowd wants another, so Rhodes obliges them with a second Cross Rhodes. Styles is down in the center of the ring. Rhodes drops a chair on the Prime Energy logo and hits Styles with a Cross Rhodes on the chair! The crowd chants, “You deserve it!” Rhodes tells the referee not to ask Styles anything. Rhodes grabs the steel chair, but he throws it aside. Rhodes goes to the apron but then gets back in the ring. Styles puts the handcuff on Styles’ left wrist and puts the other end on the middle rope! Rhodes viciously beats Styles down with the chair, hitting him in the front and back of his body. Styles collapses in pain, so Rhodes smashes him in the knee with the chair! The referee asks Styles if he quits. Styles seems like he is before saying, “Screw you, Cody Rhodes!” Rhodes hits him in the midsection with the chair and goes outside the ring to grab the top half of the steel steps. Rhodes throws the steps into the ring. Styles holds the steps over his head, and Styles looks terrified. Styles has no choice but to scream, “I quit! I quit!” The bell rings!

Winner and still Undisputed WWE Champion: “The American Nightmare” Cody Rhodes

The crowd begins singing Rhodes’ song, but Rhodes has not dropped the steps. Even though Styles quit, Rhodes decides to smash him with the steps anyway! Rhodes stands on top of the steps and holds up the Undisputed WWE Championship!

Replays are shown of the highlights from this match. Rhodes embraces his mother and heads up the ramp. As Rhodes poses in front of the stage, Solo Sikoa comes up from behind, clapping for him. Rhodes looks ready to fight, but Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa blindside him! The Bloodline triple-teams Rhodes before Randy Orton and Kevin Owens run out for the save! They fight off the Bloodline and stand tall with the Undisputed WWE Champion.

A really brutal, hard-hitting, and bloody "I Quit" Match with Cody Rhodes coming out on top of AJ Styles. It dragged at times, but it picked up nicely at the end. The blood definitely helped the match.

Winners by Pinfall and new WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions: Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn

The crowd is in disbelief and roars in approval for the home country ladies. Fyre and Dawn celebrate with their families at ringside. Fyre’s mother was killed in a tragic car accident a few weeks back. Fyre is emotional, rightly so. What a moment! They pose in the ring with the titles as the crowd chants, “You deserve it!”

If there was ever a moment that showcases the difference between the Paul Levesque Era and the previous regime, this is it. Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn, basically forgotten about on the roster, get called up for a show in their home country and become champions. #WWECastle — Wrestleview.com (@wrestleview) June 15, 2024

The match was terrible, particularly at the end with Jade Cargill looking as bad as anyone could look in a big moment. Anyone can slip on the ropes, but that was as bad a place to do it as any. Oh well.

The crowd was left thrilled with the Fyre and Dawn victory. #WWECastle — Wrestleview.com (@wrestleview) June 15, 2024

We get a ref bump as the ref is sent to floor, crashing into the barricade by Priest, which was an accident. Drew hits Priest with a claymore…an official runs to the ring, and counts, but Priest kicks out at two. The official is CM PUNK! The fans boo! Drew gets in the face of Punk, who is in the corner. Punk then low-blows Drew. The ref then gets back in the ring as he didn’t see Punk had low-blowed Drew. Priest then picks up Drew and drops him hard to the mat with a south of heaven chokeslam. Priest covers Drew to get the pin and retains the championship. The fans are quiet and in disbelief. Punk high fives some fans at ringside who are Punk fans.

As Drew recovers in disbelief, the show goes off the air.

Winner by pinfall and still WWE World Heavyweight Champion: Damian Priest

I am not sure what @MikeTedescoWV would have thought of the finish, but even though it furthers the storyline with CM Punk and Drew McIntyre, it still felt like a cheap way for Priest to go over. #WWECastle. — Wrestleview.com (@wrestleview) June 15, 2024
