Maharashtra has reported a total of 25 cases of Zika infection this year of which 21 cases are from Pune. The state health department officials, in their advisory rounds, have directed district health officials to ensure strict vigilance and monitoring of pregnant women who are Zika-positive. This year in Pune, 10 pregnant women have tested Zika positive.
In the municipal corporation areas of Pune, Kolhapur, and Ahmednagar, surveillance activities have been conducted to date across 42,962 homes, with a total of 330 blood samples collected for testing for Zika. Of these, 288 samples are of pregnant women, a state analysis states. As per the state health department report, an inspection identified 582 homes in Pune with mosquito breeding sites, followed by 345 in Kolhapur.
PMC’s health department has not reported any case of Zika virus infection today.
