What do you see when you look at the night sky? Some of us see the beautiful moon, the stars, and the calmness of the night, while others keep looking at the depth of the sky, just like the ocean. But there are some people who see the endless opportunity to explore this celestial world.
And now NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) has discovered a new world located 54 million light-years from Earth. NASA has shared an amazing image of the Spiral Galaxy, NGC 4689, and it was taken by the Hubble telescope of NASA. The galaxy is named after the Egyptian queen Berenice II, and it is located in the constellation Coma Berenices.

NASA came up and posted this image with a caption that says, “A galaxy fit for a queen.” And they wrote this because of a famous Egyptian story: “The story goes that the queen's court astronomer thought that a missing lock of Berenice’s hair had been placed amongst the stars by the gods: hence the name of the constellation, Coma Berenices. (The Latin word "coma" references her hair.)”
Later in the caption, NASA also wrote a description for the image and stated that “A close-up view of a spiral galaxy fills most of the scene. It has a bright, glowing spot at its core, broad spiral arms that hold many dark threads of dust, and pink glowing spots across the disk that mark areas of star formation. A faint halo that bleeds into the dark background surrounds the galaxy’s disk.”

The space agency revealed that the captivating image, shared on its official platform, offers a mesmerizing glimpse into the depths of the cosmos. The image, which combines data from two sets of observations spanning 2019 and 2024, showcases the ethereal beauty and mystery that Hubble is renowned for uncovering.
Spiral Galaxy NGC 4689 Features:
NASA characterizes NGC 4689 as a radiant spiral galaxy situated 54 million light-years away. It boasts a luminous core, expansive spiral arms adorned with dark dust lanes, and pink regions indicative of stellar birth. Enveloping the galaxy's disk is a subtle halo merging into the cosmic void.
According to NASA, both sets of observations are part of programs aimed at studying multiple "nearby" galaxies. However, it's the 2024 observing program that stands out as a prime example of how the Hubble and James Webb Space Telescope complement each other in unraveling the secrets of the universe.
