Adhyayan Suman says he became overconfident after Raaz 2 success, signed 12 films as people listed him with Ranbir Kapoor, Imran Khan: ‘Then life took u-turn’

Actor Adhyayan Suman says he had signed 12 films after his second movie Raaz- The Mystery Continues became a hit. Son of actor Shekhar Suman, Adhyayan made his debut with Haal-e-Dil in 2008 but found success in Raaz 2, which starred Emraan Hashmi and Kangana Ranaut. The Mohit Suri-directed film led him to be listed with other newcomers of the time, including Ranbir Kapoor and Imran Khan. “I had signed 12 films. But it didn’t work.

Actor Adhyayan Suman says he had signed 12 films after his second movie Raaz- The Mystery Continues became a hit. The actor said he was on cloud nine with the success, but it was short lived as his third release, Jashnn, bombed and all the films were scrapped.

It would be wrong to lie, because somewhere I had started to feel cool. There was this over confidence that I had arrived. A newspaper had published its top five list, and it had Ranbir Kapoor, Imran Khan and then my name. So, I thought this is it, maza aa raha hai life mein. But the way life took a U-Turn after that, things changed,” he told in the latest episode of The Bombay Journey.

The actor said when his third release Jashnn didn’t work, “all 12 films were put on hold.” Adhyayan continued, “The film didn’t get a good release, though it was a beautiful film. But it didn’t work. I was acclaimed as an actor, but all the films were scrapped.”

Adhyayan Suman recalled wondering how his position in the industry suddenly changed overnight, while there were actors of his generations, who kept working despite giving flops.

“I thought there are so many actors of my generation who are doing bad films, giving flop films but continue to do movies. Here I was, with one hit and one flop, phir bhi saara kaam bandh hogaya. Some years were spent thinking why is this happening to me. I realised it is best to look forward in life than mull or what or why something happened, how do I fight this,” he added.

The actor, along with his father Shekhar Suman, will be next seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. The series is based on the courtesans of Lahore and the life inside a red-light district in undivided India. It is set to stream on Netflix on May 1.
