Alcaraz got off to an erratic start on Court Phillipe Chatrier as reigning Australian Open winner Sinner broke serve twice to take the opening set 6-2 in quick time. The no. 2 seeded Italian then gained control in the second set as well, breaking early to leave Alcaraz in a precarious spot. But the Spaniard bounced back in supreme fashion to get the better of Sinner's serve twice before closing the second set with a 6-3 win and levelling the contest. Novak Djokovic was the defending champion, but withdrew before the quarterfinals after tearing the meniscus in his right knee and also had surgery this week.
