'All Of Us Are Responsible': Shinde Says Will Reach Out To Fadnavis As He Offers To Resign Over Maharashtra Slip

Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday said he will ask the Bharatiya Janata Party’s national leadership to relieve him from his responsibilities in the Maharashtra government so that he could work dedicatedly for the party in the state.

Fadnavis also took responsibility for the BJP’s dismissal performance in Maharashtra Lok Sabha polls.

“This debacle that happened in Maharashtra, our seats have been reduced, the entire responsibility for this is mine. I accept this responsibility and will try to fulfil whatever is lacking. I am not a person who will run away,” he said.

“We will prepare a new strategy and after preparing a new strategy we will go among the public…We will come strong and try to regain the faith of the people,” Fadnavis added.

Taking accountability for the results of Lok Sabha in Maharashtra. he said, “I was leading the party. I am requesting the BJP high command to relieve me from the responsibility of the government so that I can work hard for the party in upcoming elections.”

‘Responsibility Is Shared’

Reacting to his Deputy’s proposition, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said that all MahaYuti partners are responsible for the alliance’s poll performance and he will reach out to Fadnavi over the issue.

“All of us are responsible for this defeat. I will speak to Fadnavi,” he said.

MahaYuti’s Poll Performance

After a decade on the political pavements, the Maharashtra Congress unexpectedly resurrected itself to emerge as the single largest party in the state, and with Maha Vikas Aghadi allies, crushed the ruling MahaYuti.

As per the latest results for the 48 Lok Sabha constituencies, the MVA has secured 29 seats, the MahaYuti bagged 18 and one went to a Congress rebel-turned-independent Vishal P. Patil in Sangli.

Among the two blocs, the MVA’s Congress has bagged 12, up from two in 2014 and one in 2019, Shiv Sena (UBT)’s 10, Nationalist Congress Party (SP)’s 7; and the MahaYuti’s Bharatiya Janata Party managed 11, Shiv Sena’s 6 and Nationalist Congress Party’s just one.
