Amar Singh Chamkila’s first wife Gurmail Kaur revealed she has met the late singer’s second wife, Amarjot, a few times before the couple’s untimely death.
As per the film released based on the singer, Imtiaz Ali’s Amar Singh Chamkila, Amarjot did not know Chamkila was already married and Gurmail wasn’t aware of their love story until after they got married.
“She didn’t know how to make rotis, they had a cook,” Amar Singh Chamkila’s first wife told YouTube channel Love Punjab.

For the unversed, the Punjabi singer was married to Gurmail when he met Amarjot and fell in love with her. As per the film released based on the singer, Imtiaz Ali’s Amar Singh Chamkila, Amarjot did not know Chamkila was already married and Gurmail wasn’t aware of their love story until after they got married.
In an interview earlier this month, Gurmail spoke about Amarjot and said that she has met her when she was alive and even hosted her at their home. “Chamkila would visit alone and not bring Amarjot along. But she did visit me sometimes. I would make rotis, she would make the vegetables,” she said, adding that she didn’t know how to make rotis. “She didn’t know how to make rotis, they had a cook,” Amar Singh Chamkila’s first wife told YouTube channel Love Punjab.
Gurmail added in Punjabi, “I would respect her because of Amar Singh Chamkila.” Speaking about the aftermath of Chamkila’s death, Gurmail revealed she was caught between court cases and bringing up the children. She added that she took in Chamkila’s uncle who was no longer mentally stable after the singer’s death.
“The light of our house died. We had no one to financially support us. The children were small, where could I have gone? The money that he earned, we didn’t get any money because of the court cases that opened after his death. Cases went on for 15 years,” she revealed.
“I was handling court cases and the kids, and took on the responsibility of Chamkila’s uncle. He was not mentally stable and often believed that Chamkila and Amarjot were alive,” Gurmail added.
