Amar Singh Chamkila’s life and tragic death has everyone talking again after Imtiaz Ali released a film based on his life. In the Netflix film, Diljit Dosanjh played Amar Singh Chamkila while Parineeti Chopra played his wife, Amarjot. Before his wedding to Amarjot, Chamkila was married to Gurmail Kaur. Amar had children from both, daughters Amandeep Kaur and Kamaldeep Kaur from the first marriage, and son Jaiman Chamkila from the second. In an interview last year, Jaiman revealed he was still in touch with his father’s first wife.

Speaking with Cine Punjabi, a Punjabi content platform, Jaiman revealed that he is touch with not only Gurmail but also his stepsisters. “I am in touch with Chamkila’s first family. I have two sisters from his first wife, Amandeep and Kamaldeep. The older is married and has two kids, and Kamal is getting married this year (2023),” he said, in the interview that took place last year.

“When I go meet her, she greets me well but that’s it. From the beginning, it’s been this way. It is not her fault nor our (the children) fault,” he added. Asked if they share their sorrow about losing Chamkila, Jaiman said in Punjabi, “Sometimes we speak and she would say that if your father was around, we wouldn’t be in such state. He worked really hard, people’s evil eyes impacted him, he had too many enemies. I have my sisters as well, we try to share our pain as much as we can.”

Jaiman Chamkila, following the footsteps of his father and sister, is a singer as well. He was brought up by his maternal grandparents. Every year, on Chamkila’s death anniversary, Jaiman and his sisters organise a mela in his honour. They invite fans and fellow artists to join them in celebrating Chamkila’s music and memory.
