The political landscape in Telangana continues to shift as key members of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi ( BRS ) defect to the Congress Party. The latest defection includes BRS Patancheru MLA Gudem Mahipal Reddy , who joined Congress on Monday. Telangana Congress President Revanth Reddy formally welcomed him into the party.
Alongside Mahipal Reddy, Anil Kumar, BRS' MP candidate from Zaheerabad, also switched allegiance to Congress, accompanied by several corporators. This latest move raises the number of defected BRS MLAs now in Congress to 10.
The Congress Party is eyeing a crucial milestone - they need 26 out of BRS' 39 MLAs to defect in order to merge BRS into Congress. Achieving this would strip the BRS of its opposition status and demote party chief K Chandrashekar Rao ( KCR ) from his position as the Leader of Opposition.
Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, in an exclusive interview with Times Now, had earlier remarked on the situation, saying, "What happened to me as Leader of Opposition will happen to KCR."
The comment referred to a previous instance during the BRS regime when KCR managed to get two-thirds of Congress MLAs to join his party, effectively removing Bhatti Vikramarka from his Leader of Opposition role.
