Azam, Shadab And? Babar Likely To Drop 'These' Players From Pakistan's XI In T20 World Cup 2024

Azam Khan is horribly out of form [X]

On Thursday night, Pakistan had a shambolic outing on the field as England defeated them by seven wickets in a one-sided encounter to clinch the four-match series by two-nil. Batting first, Pakistan posted a sub-par 157-run total on the board before the hosts chased the target successfully without breaking a sweat.

Considering the T20 World Cup is just around the corner, the heavy defeat must have sent wake-up calls to the Pakistani camp. So, as they prepare for the marquee event, let's analyse and find out which players might be dropped from the playing XI based on their recent form.

Azam Khan

Renowned for his hard-hitting skills, Azam Khan has had a horrible T20I career so far, managing only 88 runs in 12 innings at a miserable average of 9.78 .

Besides recording a five-ball duck, Azam was unimpressive with the gloves during the 4th T20I vs England, dropping two simple catches behind the stumps.

So, considering his abysmal form, Pakistan might drop the middle-order batter and replace him with Usman Khan in their T20 World Cup playing XI.

Shadab Khan

Ace all-rounder Shadab Khan was also one of Pakistan's biggest disappointments in the England T20Is, failing to live up to expectations.

In his previous six T20I outings, Shadab has scored only 66 runs at a mediocre average of 13.2 .

He hasn't been prolific with the ball either, scalping only three wickets at a poor economy of 9.63 . As he isn't contributing with bat and ball, the Babar Azam-led think tank might take a bold call and exclude him from the playing XI.

Mohammad Amir

Just like Azam and Shadab, Mohammad Amir could also be in the firing line as Pakistan gear up for their first T20 World Cup 2024 game against the United States.

The left-arm pacer, who reversed his retirement and booked a ticket for the mega event, seemed like a pale shadow of his former self in the England series.

Since his comeback, Amir has been disappointing with the ball across phases, scalping only five wickets in seven T20Is at an ordinary economy of 9.16 .

So, considering Amir's worrisome form, Pakistan might consider dropping him and picking Shaheen, Naseem, Abbas Afridi and Haris Rauf as their frontline pacers in the World Cup.
