He shared a few pictures of his time with CSK in IPL 2024 and captioned the post, “A hard goodbye with my only wish to see the 2024 IPL champion trophy in CSK’s room soon!
The Bangladeshi pacer has also left the IPL to return to his country as part of preparations for the 2024 T20 World Cup.
In his last match for CSK against SRH in Chennai, Pathirana bowled two overs and got rid of Heinrich Klaasen and Jaydev Unadkat.

Star Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana , who has picked up 13 wickets in six matches of IPL 2024 for the Chennai Super Kings , has been ruled out of the remainder of the tournament. The 21-year-old cricketer took to Instagram to share a post in which he confirmed his absence from the rest of the matches for CSK .
The Sri Lanka fast bowler missed CSK’s two matches against the Punjab Kings in Chennai and Dharamsala, and there were doubts over his participation in the upcoming matches as well, but on Monday, via an Instagram post, he confirmed that he is out.
He shared a few pictures of his time with CSK in IPL 2024 and captioned the post, “A hard goodbye with my only wish to see the 2024 IPL champion trophy in CSK’s room soon! Grateful to the CSK team for all the blessings and love from Chennai. - #matheeshapathirana #ipl2024 #csk #msdhoni #pathirana.”

Pathirana, who made his IPL debut for CSK in 2022, has impressed with his bowling this year and was the team’s second-highest wicket-taker after Mustafizur Rahman (14 wickets). His absence is a big setback for Men in Yellow because he was expected to play a big role for the franchise in the upcoming matches in Rahman’s absence. The Bangladeshi pacer has also left the IPL to return to his country as part of preparations for the 2024 T20 World Cup.
In the ongoing IPL 2024, during CSK’s match against the Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium on April 14, Pathirana won the Player of the Match award for taking four wickets for 28 runs in four overs. In his last match for CSK against SRH in Chennai, Pathirana bowled two overs and got rid of Heinrich Klaasen and Jaydev Unadkat.
Defending champions CSK, which are alive in the race to qualify for the playoffs, will now look to sign another player as Pathirana’s replacement for the remaining matches.
