Sinha claimed that he got to know from several people in the media that it was Jaganath Chattopadhyay, de-facto president of the state party, behind circulating the legal notice. Bengal man Santanu Sinha, who allegedly accused BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya of 'sexually exploiting' women, accused the Congress of spreading 'fake propaganda', calling it the 'nastiest' and 'most corrupt political party'.

"It is a great chagrin to me that the nastiest and most corrupt political party in the country, the Indian National Congress, being armed with a post in Bengali posted from my Facebook account, is spreading a hate campaign against Mr Amit Malaviya and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)", he said.

"No corner in the post is there any whisper about sexual exploitation of women by Mr Amit Malaviya. Rather, I have expressed my fear that Mr Malviya will be drawn to into a honeytrap by the unscrupulous leaders of the party to remain clinging to their post despite such a debacle in the recently held election", he added.

Saying that he was a 'Sangha Swayam Sevak', former State Secretary of ABVP, and contestant in the State Assembly election and in the Kolkata Municipal Corporation election, Sinha said he "Did not want the Bharatiya Janata Party and its office bearers to get undermined in any manner by misinterpretation of his post."

"I want to give a clear message that the post was not aimed to malign Mr Malviya but as caution not to get entangled in a honeytrap, which was first brought to light by Mr Tathagata Roy, ex-president of the state unit and former governor of Tripura with the phrase Kamini Kanchan", he stressed.

Citing similar allegations against party leaders including Kailash Vijayvargiya, Siddhartha Nath Sing, Pradip Joshi and Shibprasad, Sinha said that the party had a 'bitter experience' of such honeytraps in the state, highlighting that cases against them are still pending in court.

He alleged that, in the past, West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) president Mamata Banerjee has several times 'threatened' to bring out clips of honeytraps.

Sinha went on to express his astonishment saying "None from the state BJP has ever tried to know the purport of the post, but played a dubious role."

"A legal notice sent from the end of Mr Malviya by his learned Advocate was circulated among the media, purposely, with a view to creating pressure upon me on the one hand, and on the other, to divert their responsibility for the debacle in the last Parliamentary election in West Bengal", he added.

Sinha claimed that he got to know from several people in the media that it was Jaganath Chattopadhyay, de-facto president of the state party, behind circulating the legal notice.

"If my post hurts Mr Malaviya and/or undermines my party because of such misinterpretation and edited version, I do express my heart-felt sorrow for the same. Since I have not written anything untoward in my post, with the mission to malign anyone, I am not withdrawing the post, the bone of contention", Sinha maintained.

Notably, BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya on Monday sued Sinha for Rs 10 crore over defamation. In the legal notice, Malviya sought the removal of Sinha's "false and derogatory" post from the social media and gave him 72 hours to provide an explanation.

"If no or inadequate response is received, appropriate legal action will be followed and taken to a logical conclusion. A statement as required will be issued then", the legal notice said.
