"On April 19, only outer parts of the city like Kengeri, Yelahanka, Chikkabanavara, Hesaraghatta, and others received light rains, but the India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported no rainfall since they were minimal," he said.
Yesterday, Bengaluru came close to ending this dry spell, but the city IMD did not record any worthwhile showers.

In what could be a major relief from the scorching heat, most parts of Bengaluru received light rains on April 20 after nearly five months.
East and South Bengaluru, including areas such as Whitefield, Varthur, Sarjapur Road, Marathahalli, Bellandur, Bommanahalli, BTM Layout, Koramangala, Jayanagar, JP Nagar, HSR Layout, Banashankari, Uttarahalli, Rajarajeshwari Nagar, Tata Nagar, Sahakar Nagar, Jalahalli, Peenya, Dasarahalli, Yeshwantpur, Malleshwaram, Nagarabhavi, Vijayanagar, Mysuru Road, Nayandahalli, Gottigere, RT Nagar, Hebbal, CV Raman Nagar, Jnanabharathi, etc received light rains, bringing some relief from the unbearable summer heat.

"Bengaluru is getting rains after 148 days, with the last rain recorded on November 23. We will have the rainfall data by tonight" Aditya Gowda, a private weather blogger who runs the Karnataka Weather handle on x (formerly X) told Moneycontrol.
"On April 19, only outer parts of the city like Kengeri, Yelahanka, Chikkabanavara, Hesaraghatta, and others received light rains, but the India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported no rainfall since they were minimal," he said.
Many people posted pictures and videos of the first summer rain on social media, and #BengaluruRains was trending on X (formerly Twitter). "Bengaluru IMD last reported noteworthy minimal showers of around 2mm on November 23, 2023. Since then, there has been no significant rain. Yesterday, Bengaluru came close to ending this dry spell, but the city IMD did not record any worthwhile showers. Thus, technically, the dry spell continued. Bengaluru's long dry season finally ended on April 20," stated a post by Namma Karnataka Weather on X.
Bengaluru recorded 36.6°C on March 30, the hottest temperature recorded in that month in the past five years, and on April 2, it reached 37.2°C, making it the fourth-highest temperature in the last 15 years.
Experts attribute the rise in temperature of the tech capital to multiple factors, including the impact of El Niño, the heat-island effect resulting from diminishing green cover and encroachments on water bodies, concretization, and the prevalence of glass facade buildings.
