The Congress called the incident “chilling” and said the state’s law-and-order situation had gone “off the rails”.
“Uttarakhand is experiencing a rising number of crimes against women,” Uttarakhand Congress chief spokesperson Garima Mehra Dasauni said.
The BJP said that the case will be investigated thoroughly. Calling the Congress’s remarks “politically coloured”, it said such statements “harms the morale of the investigating agencies”.
“All the criminal cases that have come to notice have been investigated properly and without any pressure and most of them have been solved and the accused have been sent behind bars,” BJP’s state media in-charge Manveer Singh Chauhan said.
