Brydon Carse has been banned after an investigation by the Cricket Regulator found that he had placed hundreds of bets on cricket matches between 2017 and 2019.
Carse, who is on a two-year central contract with England, has been banned from cricket for 16 months, though 13 of those months are suspended for two years.

Though Carse is uncapped in Test cricket, he has been viewed as a potential option in the England pace attack given his status as one of the quickest bowlers on the domestic circuit.
Earlier this year, Carse was part of the England Lions side that toured India.

In a statement relaying the news, the Cricket Regulator said that Carse accepted the charges, was co-operative throughout the investigation and “demonstrated significant remorse for his actions.” The Cricket Regulator also added that “other significant mitigating factors” were considered when deciding the length of the ban.
While he was found to have placed 303 bets on cricket matches in the given time period, there is no suggestion that Carse, who last played for England in December 2023 on the limited overs tour of the Caribbean, has ever bet on a match that he has had any involvement in.
An ECB spokesperson said: “We take these matters extremely seriously and do not condone any form of anti-corruption breach in cricket.”We support the Cricket Regulator’s decision and their consideration of the mitigating factors in Brydon’s case. He has co-operated and shown remorse for his actions. We are satisfied that Brydon has shown growth in the five years since this breach and has demonstrated a greater understanding of his responsibilities. We are hopeful that his case can serve as an educational example for other cricketers.” “Whilst these bets were several years ago, that is no excuse and I take full responsibility for my actions,” said Carse. “I would like to thank the ECB, Durham Cricket and the PCA for their support during this difficult time for me. I will be working hard in the next 12 weeks to ensure that I repay that support on the field when I am able to return to playing.” The news means that Carse will not be available for England’s Test series against West Indies, though the ban does expire during Sri Lanka’s visit later in the summer.
