Two cases of cholera was reported from the states of Kerala and Gujarat. An area of 2-kilometre radius has been declared as cholera-affected area in Rajkot.

Cholera outbreak in India: With monsoon season in full swing, two states of India has recently reported cholera outbreak. Two cases were detected from Gujarat and an area in a 2-kilometre radius as been declared as cholera-affected area. This was declared under the Epidemic Diseases Act on July 5th, as per reports.

The second state which also reported cases of cholera this week is Kerala. As per recent reports, two cases have been confirmed and 22 people are exhibiting certain symptoms of the disease. Officials suspect that the other 22 people also may have cholera. Cholera is acute diarrhoeal infection which spread through water and food contamination. It is caused by Vibrio cholerae. The immediate and the most noticeable symptoms of cholera are acute diarrhoea, vomiting and dehydration. If it is left untreated, it could turn out fatal. Timely diagnosis and treatment is the key.

The Rajkot Municipal Corporation in Gujarat said to the media that there investigation revealed that the infection may have been caused by contaminated water which was bought from outside. The corpration has banned the manufacturing of all food items made of ice till September 4 for extra precaution.

Officials say that is a possibility that the infection may have spread from the water where people store fish in their house for a few days after getting them from other places. The water that the fish was stored in may have gotten contaminated causing the two cases.
