NEW DELHI: The four papers – Chemistry, Biology, English, and General Test for the Common University Entrance Test-Undergraduate (CUET-UG) scheduled for Wednesday (May 15) have been postponed for all Delhi centres. The same has been rescheduled for May 29, 2024 . The exams for May 16 to 18 in Delhi will continue as scheduled. The exams in the rest of the country will continue as scheduled, including on May 15, the National Testing Agency (NTA) announced on Tuesday.Approximately lakh candidates are scheduled to take the test on the first day of the exam. The rescheduling in Delhi was necessitated due to high number of aspirants, unavailability of adequate infrastructure and requisitioning of invigilators for ongoing Lok Sabha poll duties. As pet the notification issues by the NTA on Tuesday night, “It is being informed to all the concerned candidates and stakeholders that due to unavoidable reasons, the test papers (Chemistry -306, Biology - 304, English - 101, and General Test - 501) which were earlier scheduled on 15 May 2024 stand postponed for the candidates appearing in Centres across Delhi only. The examination will now be held on May 29, 2024. The revised Admit Cards will be issued for candidates appearing in centres across Delhi.”According to NTA sources, a total of 1.46 lakh candidates are scheduled to appear in centres across Delhi, which is double the number of NEET-UG aspirants, which is also conducted by the Agency.“The number of candidates is high and to ensure they get the first of the City, an adequate number of centres with good facilities could not be arranged. The SOPs are important so that students don’t face inconvenience during the exam. Another reason was many invigilators involved in election duties and could not report from their May 13 polling duties. Therefore, the exams for May 15 had to be rescheduled in Delhi centres.”A parent, Seema, said: “Short notice causes stress and confusion. The night before the exam how can they reschedule? Principals are notifying students in class groups to spread awareness, but most students are confused whether the exam has been postponed or if this news is fake. It's an unnecessary disruption for students, especially those from economically weaker sections who may not be very aware. Students are also wondering why the Hindi date says 1946.”
