Delhi news: Taj Express train catches fire between Tughlakabad and Okhla, passengers escape unhurt

A fire broke out in three coaches of the Taj Express train in Sarita Vihar area of southeast Delhi on Monday.

The blaze erupted in train between Tughlakabad and Okhla.

No one was injured in the incident as passengers managed to escape the affected coaches in time, officials said.

The fire tenders were soon rushed to the site to douse the blaze.

The cause of the fire is not known yet.

No reports of any casualties have been reported so far.

Nothern Railways GM Shobhan Chaudhuri told ANI: “...The fire has been brought under control. All the passengers disembarked with their luggage...There are no casualties. Traffic will resume now..."

“We received a call at 4.24 pm regarding the fire in three coaches of the Taj Express train. Eight fire tenders were pressed into service and the fire was put out by 5.43 pm," a Delhi Fire Services (DFS) official said.

Earlier, the fire services department had said that four coaches of the Taj Express train had caught fire.

DCP Railways said a PCR call regarding the fire was received around 4.40 pm.

“After receiving the call, police personnel rushed to the spot near Apollo Hospital. After reaching the spot, it was found that three coaches of the Taj Express train had caught fire. The train was stopped," a senior police officer said.

He further said that coaches D3 and D4 were gutted in the fire, while D2 was partially damaged.

No one was injured in the incident as the passengers quickly moved to other coaches and deboarded the train, he also said.

Further action is being taken by the railways and an investigation into the matter is underway.
