Delhi government's plan to raise fines for mosquito breeding in residential and commercial areas awaits notification a year after approval. Proposed fines are Rs 1,000 for homes and Rs 5,000 for businesses. Efforts are underway to combat increasing dengue cases in Delhi.
New Delhi: Municipal Corporation of Delhi ( MCD ) has intensified its efforts to control mosquito breeding in compliance with Delhi Municipal Act Act.From Jan 1 to July 7, the corporation issued 39,862 legal notices, 9,479 challans and imposed administrative charges on 2,580 repeat offenders worth Rs 6.9 lakh. During this period, 246 dengue cases were reported.The administrative charges are levied to clear “mosquito-genic” conditions using MCD’s staff and equipment, in addi tion to challans issued for such violations.During the period, MCD conducted 1.8 crore house visits to identify mosquito breeding sites, with 43,650 found to have active breeding sites. Insecticide spraying was carried out in 2.2 lakh houses.“Due to the rain, the risk of dengue, chikungunya and other vector-borne diseases has increased.
