The majority — 31 cases — were registered in May.District malaria officer Dr SS Piwlatkar said the maximum cases were reported from the Nashik taluka region; a significant number of cases also came to the fore in the Niphad and Dindori talukas. At least 1,650 cases were reported in the district last year, as against 742 in 2022. “The health department is working hard to spread awareness among people to thoroughly wash and dry utensils, as well as not let water accumulate in trays of water pots and flowerpots, in refrigerators and other places around their homes,” Dr Piwlatkar said. She said, “The malaria department and Nashik Zilla Parishad multi-purpose workers conduct a survey in the entire village if a dengue patient is registered. Those with dengue-like symptoms are told get themselves checked in the nearest govt hospital.” According to her, apart from these steps, precautionary measures like fogging, container surveys, releasing guppy fish into stagnant waters and more are also undertaken.Dr Piwlatkar told TOI, “Asha workers move from home to home in rural parts of the district to check if any person presents dengue-like symptoms for prompt detection and care. Their blood samples are then sent for further analysis to a district-level laboratory.”
