‘Don’t Want Virat Kohli to be Picked for T20 World Cup’: Teammate Makes Stunning Remark

Should Virat Kohli be part of the Indian T20 squad for the T20 World Cup later this year in the West Indies and the USA seems to be the million-dollar question in everybody’s mind and even though Kohli himself may be putting to rest all of the detractors with a stellar IPL 2024 campaign with the bat so far, Kohli’s long time admirer and teammate at the Royal Challengers Bengaluru does not want to see him make it to India’s T20 World Cup squad.

Glenn Maxwell, Kohli’s RCB teammate, appearing on the ‘Around the Wicket’ show made the stunning statement, of course in jest, that he would not want to face up against the King because he still has scars from Kohli’s out-of-the-world innings against Australia in the 2016 T20 World Cup in Mohali.

Chasing 161 to win on a tricky wicket, Kohli blazed to a 51-ball unbeaten 82 to guide India home. The knock is considered to be one of the best T20 knocks played by Kohli. India eventually fell in the semi-final to eventual winners West Indies.

“He was hitting balls on a wicket that was inconsistent into different areas and his ability to change his hands position at the last moment and flick it almost like a table tennis bat; and time it into a gap or over the fences, something that’s almost unmatched around the world. And his awareness of what he needs to do to win the game is phenomenal. It’s been great to sort of play alongside him and train with him and watch him go about it, but I still have to play against him so I’m hoping India doesn’t pick him. It’d be great to not have to come up against him.” Maxwell added further.
