A fire broke out on Thursday on the spire of the medieval Notre Dame Cathedral in the French city of Rouen.
City Mayor Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol confirmed that all public resources have been mobilised.
Taking to X, Mayor Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol said, “The beginning of a fire is underway on the spire of the cathedral of Rouen.
The Rouen cathedral spire had been surrounded by scaffolding and a white cover for several weeks due to ongoing renovation works.
Earlier in 2019, a devastating fire broke out at Notre-Dame cathedral in Paris, which was reportedly started during renovation works.

French authorities said that the spire caught fire during renovation works. The authorities said that there were no reports of casualties and the extent of damage was unclear.
The Rouen cathedral spire had been surrounded by scaffolding and a white cover for several weeks due to ongoing renovation works.
The local prefecture, which exercises state authority in the region, said the cathedral had been evacuated, and emergency services were on the scene. A security cordon was in place around the building.
The cathedral, which is a jewel of French medieval gothic architecture, was built in the 12th century and was repeatedly painted by impressionist artist Claude Monet in the 19th century.
