CHANDIGARH: Former PM Manmohan Singh on Thursday broke his silence on his successor Narendra Modi 's claims that he had said that " Muslims had the first claim on the country's resources".
Singh accused Modi of lying, saying that the PM has "attributed some false statements to me".In a three-page letter issued on Thursday, in which Singh also appealed to the electorate of Punjab to vote for Congress to "safeguard the Constitution", the former Prime Minister said: "I have never in my life singled out one community from the other.

"Singh, who accused BJP of targeting "Punjab, Punjabis, and Punjabiyat", said Modi was indulging in the most "vicious" form of hate speeches.
"No Prime Minister in the past has uttered such hateful, unparliamentary, and coarse terms, meant to target either a specific section of society or the opposition."
