French citizens in Pondy, Tamil Nadu, Kerala cast vote for Parliamentary polls

PUDUCHERRY: French citizens living in the Union territory of Puducherry, Tamil Nadu and Kerala exercised their franchise to elect representatives in Sunday's first round of French parliamentary polls . There are 4,550 French citizens in Puducherry, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. The Consulate General of France in Puducherry and the Bureau de France in Chennai organized the polls with the help of the local authorities.The citizens can vote at the ballot box, by proxy or online. The authorities set up four separate polling stations at four locations - two in Puducherry, one in Chennai and one in Karaikal. Candidates from 15 different political parties were in the fray in the first round.Consul General of France Lise Talbot Barré was present when the polling began in Pondicherry.

She also cast her vote.The President of the French Republic dissolved the National Assembly on June 9, 2024, calling for an early election.On June 9, the Consulate General of France in Pondicherry and the Bureau de France in Chennai, with the support of the local authorities, organized elections which enabled French citizens to elect their representatives to the European Parliament - or "Eurodeputies".
