homeopath allegedly paid Rs 16.32 lakh for admission to an MBBS course in Uttar Pradesh but months after the payment was simply sent the MBBS degree and related documents from Bundelkhand University. I contacted Prem Kumar Rajput, who assured me that I would get an MBBS degree based on my Class 12 marks. "Rajput told Patel that he would be granted admission, undergo internships, take exams and get the degree from a university in Jhansi in five years. He told me that three other people - Dr Sauket Khan, Dr Anand Kumar and Arun Kumar - would help me complete the MBBS course.

AHMEDABAD: While the country is stunned by the alleged irregularities in NEET-UG exam, a shocker has come from Mehsana in north Gujarat. homeopath allegedly paid Rs 16.32 lakh for admission to an MBBS course in Uttar Pradesh but months after the payment was simply sent the MBBS degree and related documents from Bundelkhand University. Alarmed on being sent forged degree certificates, the homeopath approached the cops in 2019 but the FIR was lodged only on June 14, 2024.In July 2018, a homeopath, Suresh Patel, now 41, a resident of Rameshwar Society on Modhera Road in Mehsana, was surfing on the internet about higher education in medicine. He came across a website offering an MBBS degree through a forum called "All India Alternative Medical Council" and phoned the contact person, Dr Prem Kumar Rajput, who was purportedly from Nainital in Uttarakhand, in July 2018.Patel told TOI, "I work for a hospital in Mehsana and always wanted to pursue an MBBS degree. I contacted Prem Kumar Rajput, who assured me that I would get an MBBS degree based on my Class 12 marks. I was sceptical as NEET had been introduced by then it was not possible to get admission on basis of class 12 grades alone. But Rajput assured me that everything would be legal."Rajput told Patel that he would be granted admission, undergo internships, take exams and get the degree from a university in Jhansi in five years. Patel decided to go ahead. He first paid Rs 50,000 for which he got an admission letter from Bundelkhand University in Jhansi."Rajput spoke to me about 25 times. I was convinced as he said that he was a doctor himself and his wife was also a doctor in Dubai. He told me that three other people - Dr Sauket Khan, Dr Anand Kumar and Arun Kumar - would help me complete the MBBS course. On his instructions, I paid Rs 16.32 lakh between July 10, 2018, and Feb 23, 2019, and began waiting for my classes to start," said Patel.Once the full payment was made, Suresh Patel did not get calls for classes prompting him to feel suspicious. "In March 2019, I received a package via courier at my workplace, Ganesh Hospital in Nandasan. On opening it, I found MBBS marksheets, a degree certificate, internship training certificates and a registration certificate in my name," he said.He said all the certificates and degrees bore stamps of the Medical Council of India (MCI). Patel immediately approached the MCI and learned that someone had taken him for a royal ride. Not wanting to get involved in any illegality, Patel filed an application of complaint with Mehsana police which was handed over to Ahmedabad crime branch in 2019 but yielded no results. "In 2019, I accompanied a Mehsana police team to Sangam Vihar in Delhi where Anand Kumar reportedly lived and ran the organization, but there was no one at the address. We later went to the branch of a private bank at Nehru Place in Delhi, where the transactions were made and collected evidence of a huge racket," said Patel. After that, no further clues were found and nor were the accused traced. For a long time, Patel waited for the cops to register a complaint in vain. Meanwhile, Patel collected more evidence and in Dec 2023, he filed a complaint with the Mehsana SP's office. The application was transferred to Nandasan police which finally registered an FIR for breach of trust, cheating and abetment under the Indian Penal Code against the four accused persons.
