As of 9 p.m. EDT, over 900,000 CenterPoint Energy customers and more than 42,000 Entergy customers were affected.
These outages coincided with severe thunderstorms hitting Houston and nearby areas, including Cypress.
Photos and videos shared on social media showed intense rainfall and thunder in the region, with reports of flooding in certain areas.
Meanwhile, the National Weather Service issued a Tornado Watch for southeast Texas.

Meanwhile, the National Weather Service issued a Tornado Watch for southeast Texas.

Additionally, Grimes County was under a Flash Flood Warning until 6:45 p.m., while San Jacinto and Walker County were under a warning until 7 p.m. Additionally, Polk County was under a warning until 7:30 p.m.
"Storms continue to slowly slide south and east, with the strongest storms remaining north of our coverage area. The expectation is for storms to begin developing further south over the next 1-2 hours. Large hail and damaging winds are possible. Locally heavy rain as well," said the NWS Austin/San Antonio in a post on X.
