Hungary’s Peter Gulácsi expects fans to provide a big advantage against Germany: “This will be an away game for you”

However, the host nation will likely find Hungary to be a more difficult opponent than Scotland was, with the former nearly kicking Germany out of the 2021 EUROs via yet another group stage embarrassment. X account @iMiaSanMia captured, via Bild, a rather confident statement from Hungary’s No.1 goalkeeper, Peter Gulácsi. I think this will be an away game for [Germany]. However, the subsequent boost was not enough for Hungary as they and crashed to a tame 3-1 defeat to Switzerland. Can what Gulácsi perceives as the home side muster up a victory to preserve their hopes of making it out of the group stage?

After sweeping away Scotland 5-1 and winning their first fixture in a major competition since 2016 (2017 if you count the Confederations Cup where several future Bayern Munich players starred), Germany is riding a major wave of euphoria ahead of the country’s second group match in 2024 European Championship against Hungary. However, the host nation will likely find Hungary to be a more difficult opponent than Scotland was, with the former nearly kicking Germany out of the 2021 EUROs via yet another group stage embarrassment. And their goalkeeper believes they will have another ace up their sleeve.

X account @iMiaSanMia captured, via Bild, a rather confident statement from Hungary’s No.1 goalkeeper, Peter Gulácsi. “Our fans are very creative when it comes to getting tickets. I think this will be an away game for [Germany]. There has been a huge football euphoria in Hungary for weeks, and we are extremely happy about that. The support of our fans brings energy, you can feel it. That gives us a push.”

As a regular at Lawnballsport Leipzig for around a decade now, the support of the fans for the 35-year-old goalkeeper must feel like offering coffee to a guy just coming off of a grueling 20 hour shift at work. However, the subsequent boost was not enough for Hungary as they and crashed to a tame 3-1 defeat to Switzerland. Can what Gulácsi perceives as the home side muster up a victory to preserve their hopes of making it out of the group stage? We’ll see.
