Monsoon advances towards Gujarat
The southwest monsoon advanced into the state on Sunday after reaching parts of south Gujarat early on June 11 and stalling for several days. The IMD gave this information. In its forecast on Sunday evening, the IMD said that conditions remain favourable for the monsoon to advance into some more parts of Gujarat and adjoining north Arabian Sea in the next three to four days.
The IMD said in its weather bulletin, “The southwest monsoon has advanced into some more parts of Arabian Sea, Gujarat state, remaining parts of Maharashtra, some more parts of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, remaining parts of Odisha and some parts of Jharkhand.” It said that during the next three to four days, conditions are favourable for it to advance into some more parts of north Arabian Sea and Gujarat state, some more parts of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, remaining parts of Jharkhand and Bihar, some parts of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
After the entry, the southwest monsoon did not advance into other parts of Gujarat for several days. The southwest monsoon usually enters Gujarat on June 15 and advances into other parts of the state, including Ahmedabad and some areas of Saurashtra, by June 20. It covers most parts of Saurashtra by June 25 and the entire state by June 30, officials said.
According to the IMD, Tapi district in south Gujarat received heavy rainfall in the 24-hour period ending at 6.30 am on Sunday. Many places in south Gujarat and isolated places in north Gujarat and Saurashtra also received rainfall during this period. It has forecast light to moderate rain and thundershowers in all districts of Gujarat next week.

Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra Ghat areas and Karnataka are likely to receive rain for five days. At the same time, Gujarat may receive good rain till June 24, Kerala and Mahe till June 25, and Tamil Nadu till June 25.
