IMD issues weather advisory for Char Dham yatra pilgrims

NEW DELHI: The India Meteorological Department ( IMD ) predicts thunderstorms and rainfall for the next couple of days along the Char Dham yatra route, a sacred pilgrimage in the Hindu religion. The ceremonies were conducted amidst the chanting of hymns and a large gathering of devotees.The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued weather updates for the Char Dham yatra route, cautioning pilgrims of possible thunderstorms. On 11 May 2024, a thunderstorm with lightning, hail, and squall reaching speeds of 50-60 kmph, and up to 70 kmph, is predicted at isolated places. Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami led the inaugural puja at the Kedarnath Dham temple, praying for the safety and spiritual success of the pilgrims.CM Dhami highlighted the eagerness of devotees for this annual journey, which has now commenced with the opening of the Kedarnath Dham. As the doors of the temple opened, the air was filled with chants of 'Har Har Mahadev,' expressing the devotion of the pilgrims present.The Kedarnath temple, adorned with 40 quintals of petals, stood in its majestic beauty, inviting worshippers to experience its sacred atmosphere.
