Indian-origin man shoots Punjab woman dead in US, injures another

An Indian-origin man opened fire on two women from Punjab in Roosevelt Avenue in Cartaret, New Jersey. The shooting occurred outside a residence on Wednesday morning, resulting in the death of one woman, while the other sustained critical injuries.According to US media outlets, the suspect, identified as 19-year-old Gaurav Gill, has been taken into custody by law enforcement authorities and faces charges of murder.In a post on X , formerly known as Twitter, The Consulate General of India on June 14, identified the victims as Jasvir Kaur and Gagandeep Kaur and expressed grief upon the unfortunate event. "Deeply saddened to learn of the tragic demise of Ms. Jasvir Kaur and injuries to Ms. Gagandeep Kaur in a shooting on Roosevelt Av, Cartaret, New Jersey. We offer our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased," The Consulate General of India in New York wrote on X.After the incident, the two women were taken to hospital via helicopter, one of the victims, Jasvir passed away due to the severity of her wounds.Law enforcement officials have not yet revealed any information regarding the perpetrator's potential motive or any link between Gill and the victims.The investigation into the shooting is ongoing the Consulate General of India in New York said that the they are in touch with RWJ Barnabas Health &Carteret PD to follow up on case.In another event last week an Indian-origin man shot and killed his brother while also injuring his mother in New York, according to officials.The incident occurred on Sunday in the Richmond Hill area of New York, where approximately 26 per cent of the population is of Indian or Caribbean origin, as stated by the official.The suspect has been named as Karamjit Multani (33), while the deceased victim, his brother, was identified as Vipanpal (27). The injured mother (52), who was shot in the stomach, has not yet been named.
