“You look like late Captain Anshuman Singh’s wife,” a user said. Most of the comments, however, were rather rude that slammed Smriti Singh for “betraying” her in-laws.

Captain Anshuman Singh died in a fire incident in Siachen last year while trying to save his fellow soldiers. He was awarded Kirti Chakra posthumously on July 5 this year for displaying indomitable courage. The award was received by his wife Smriti Singh and his mother.

His parents, however, claimed that Smriti took the gallantry award to her home in Punjab’s Gurdaspur along with his photo album, clothes, and other memories.

Meanwhile, tired of online trolling, Reshma issued a statement on July 14 with the caption: “There is a limit.”

“This is not Smriti Singh’s (widow of Indian Army soldier Capt Anshuman Singh) page/ig account. Read the profile details and bio first. Please refrain from spreading false information and hate comments,” Reshma said in her statement.

On her Instagram stories, Reshma added, "This is absurd! Using my identity to spread false information about Smriti Singh. We are going ahead with legal actions.”

Reshma Sebastian, who has over 3 lakh followers on Instagram, lives in Germany with her husband and daughter.

President Droupadi Murmu conferred the Kirti Chakra, India's second-highest peacetime gallantry award, posthumously to Captain Singh.

In July 2023, a short circuit ignited a fire in an Indian Army ammunition dump at Siachen in the early hours of the morning. Captain Singh, amid the chaos, courageously rescued fellow soldiers trapped in a fiber-glass hut.

As the blaze spread to a nearby medical investigation shelter, Captain Singh made a valiant attempt to recover life-saving medicines. Unfortunately, he sustained severe burns and succumbed to his injuries.
