RCB and GT find themselves at the opposite ends of a slope. The former are on the rise with three successive wins while the latter have lost as many on the bounce. The scene looked different a fortnight ago when GT were at the middle of the points table with four wins and as many defeats after eight games, while RCB were right at the bottom with just a solitary win to show for from the same number of games. RCB have vacated the bottom spot with a resounding win after a long stay there while GT find themselves just one place ahead of the new bottom-dwellers MI.

Both teams now are on the same page with eight points from 11 matches each albeit they took different routes to get there and a massive difference in NRR (RCB have improved theirs to -0.049 while GT have the worst at -1.320). Both can get to a maximum of 14 points and would need a host of other results to go their way for them to qualify. Having said that, three of Titans' remaining fixtures are against teams sitting in the top half of the table while RCB don't have any fixtures left against the top-four placed sides.

What is the perfect scenario for RCB and GT?

- Win all three remaining matches and get to 14 points.

- RR and KKR run through the remaining matches and maximize their points tally to 16+.

- The winner of SRH vs LSG contest on May 8 win all their remaining fixtures and also get to 16 or more.

- The loser of SRH vs LSG game should lose their last three fixtures and get stuck on 12 points.

- None of the other four teams currently residing outside the top four should go past 12 points.

In such a scenario, RR, KKR and the winner of SRH vs LSG match will qualify as the top three with the side getting to 14 points among RCB and GT going through as the fourth qualifying side.

What do May 5 fixtures hold?

PBKS are playing CSK in the picturesque Dharamsala and LSG will lock horns with KKR in Lucknow. A defeat for PBKS would put them in the same position as GT and RCB while the other three sides will still have their fortunes in their own hands largely irrespective of the results on Sunday.
