The ongoing season of the IPL is intensifying with the top-tier teams on course to secure their playoff positions. Now, the discussion is about the coming season of the mega auction before the 2025 season of IPL.
Unlike the previous mega auction, which permitted the teams to retain just 4 players from the existing squad, the auction for the 2025 season will be much different.
Apparently, the majority of the teams have pushed the narrative to retain 8 players from the existing squad, instead of the customary 4. This decision could be made public soon.
Earlier, only 4 retentions were allowed to facilitate the arrival of two new teams Lucknow and Gujarat. But there is no such proposition for the 2025 season so the chances are that 8 retentions could be permitted.
This essentially means that all the teams will retain their core squad in 2025 and there will only be cosmetic changes to the squads. If every team retained 8 players, the remaining positions would be filled based on the auctions and this would freshen things up, while the core squads would remain intact.
