Leon Goretzka: Bayern Munich learning from mistakes after battering Union Berlin

Just as both Thomas Tuchel and Thomas Müller euphorically stated, it was a perfect week for Bayern Munich. A central figure, without whom none of it could have been possible, was Leon Goretzka. A man on a mission after he was left out of the German national team, Goretzka put in a man of the match performance against Union Berlin with a superb goal and an assist for Thomas Müller. “We know how difficult it can be in this stadium,” stated Goretzka (as captured by @iMiaSanMia) after the game. Cyler breaks down a fantastic win but one where Union Berlin still managed to show some of its strengths — and Bayern’s weaknesses.

Just as both Thomas Tuchel and Thomas Müller euphorically stated, it was a perfect week for Bayern Munich. With three wins in a row, qualifying for the Champions League semifinals, and now a 5-1 win away against Union Berlin, there was no better way to forget the bitter taste it left to see the Meisterschale taken away from Munich after 11 years.

A central figure, without whom none of it could have been possible, was Leon Goretzka. A man on a mission after he was left out of the German national team, Goretzka put in a man of the match performance against Union Berlin with a superb goal and an assist for Thomas Müller. After the match, Goretzka went into details on what drove Bayern Munich in such an aggressive manner to leave Die Eisener reeling after every attack on their goal.

“We know how difficult it can be in this stadium,” stated Goretzka (as captured by @iMiaSanMia) after the game. “We were prepared for that and took on the fight well from the start. We made Union lose faith with the goals and finished our chances well. At halftime, we remembered the game in Heidenheim, where we played a good first half, led 2-0 and lost in the end. Today it looks like we have learned from that.”

Well, there is no better lesson than to learn from your own mistakes they say, and Goretzka seems to be the true incarnation of that philosophy. With a drive like that, maybe just maybe there is hope that the biggest of trophies, the Champions League rather than the Bundesliga, will be celebrated at Marienplatz at the end of the season.
