Inter Miami's tense CONCACAF Champions Cup quarter-final against Monterrey is set for Wednesday but some conditions have already been set for Lionel Messi following an ugly incident

Inter Miami heads into Wednesday's game against the Mexican 2-1 down following a defeat on home soil - a game in which Messi did not feature but that didn't stop the World Cup-winning Argentine from getting involved in an ugly situation.

Messi had a heated exchange with Monterrey assistant coach Nico Sanchez after Inter Miami voiced its displeasure with the match officials, who showed the MLS side six yellow cards and a red. Sanchez branded Messi a "possessed dwarf" who has “the face of the devil” in leaked audio after he allegedly "put his fist" next to the rival coach's face.

Sanchez has since apologised for his comments aimed at Messi and Inter Miami's head coach Tata Martino, but it hasn't tempered tensions heading into Wednesday's second leg, which the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner will play in.

According to Canal 6, Inter Miami will be financially punished by CONCACAF for the ugly scenes, while Messi has also been informed that his bodyguard Chueko will be banned from entering the playing field. Chueko will only be allowed in the locker rooms and mixed area.

Chueko is a former soldier of the United States Army and has served in Iraq and Afghanistan as a Navy Seal, according to La Nacion, and he has hundreds of thousands of Instagram followers. It is reported that Chueko was recommended by Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham.

Chueko is also said to lead a team of 50, who work around the clock to keep Messi and his loved ones safe in Miami. He has often been seen patrolling the touchline during games to intercept fans who run on the pitch to try and meet their football idol.

Often enough, his kind-hearted nature shines through and he allows them to meet Messi while remaining in control of the situation. But he might have to take more of a backseat for their latest CONCACAF Champions League tie after recent events.

Messi will start Wednesday's game after returning from injury and scoring in the 2-2 MLS draw with the Colorado Rapids. "Messi will start on the field at the BBVA Stadium," Martino said. "The idea would be [to start], but we understand the demand of the upcoming match.

"With Leo, it is the usual thing that he provokes in our team, in the teammates, in the people. The most important thing is that he felt comfortable, good, loose. We knew it was a risk for him to play the first game with Monterrey."
