"Sunday was a tough day at work. We faced a tragic accident involving five young adults, aged 22-24, all IT engineers from Odisha working in Bangalore," Dr Ali wrote on X. "A calm Sunday night turned into a race against time to save these young lives. They all suffered traumatic brain injuries and severe facial fractures with ENT bleeding. The hardest part was deciding who to prioritise for treatment and informing the neurosurgeon for urgent intervention."

At the time of the tweet, two of the accident victims had succumbed to their injuries, three were in the ICU. "The only survivor with minor injuries was the one wearing a seatbelt," Dr Ali said.

According to The Hindu, the survivor has been identified as K. Manikandan, the father of two deceased twins, who was driving the SUV.

"Today, their parents travelled from across the country, from smaller cities, to find their children's lifeless bodies. This is a reminder to drive safely, wear seat belts, and never drink and drive," the doctor added.

According to reports, the accident had occurred after Manikandan lost control of the speeding vehicle. CCTV footage shows him first hitting a moped before hitting a divider and flipping over on the Virudhunagar-Madurai highway in Sivarakottai near Tirumangalam, early on Wednesday.
