Manchester United to sign Joshua Zirkzee, Bayern Munich will get 50% of the transfer fee

According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United have secured the signing of former Bayern Munich youth striker Joshua Zirkzee. United will pay a transfer fee north of 40m euros, which is a huge bonus for Bayern Munich as they had a 50% sell-on fee attached. Well, we didn’t see this one coming!

According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United have secured the signing of former Bayern Munich youth striker Joshua Zirkzee. The Dutchman made a permanent move to Serie A side Bologna in 2022, where he has excelled — scoring 12 goals and recording 7 assists last season. United will pay a transfer fee north of 40m euros, which is a huge bonus for Bayern Munich as they had a 50% sell-on fee attached.

Man United will NOT trigger the clause but pay slightly above €40m with better payment terms, in three years.

Zirkzee signs until June 2029 with option for further season.

In case you missed it, the sell-on fee was covered by this site back when Zirkzee first moved to Bologna permanently in 2022. Bayern Munich should get as much as €20m from the deal (depending on how the clause was worded) — a superb ROI on a youth player. The club actually had a matching right included in the original contract, but we can safely assume that it won’t become a factor in this deal. After all, Bayern already have Harry Kane and Mathys Tel — there’s simply no space for another striker on this roster.

In Zirkzee’s case, it’s a major step up in his career. He will get to work with a fellow Dutchman in Erik ten Hag — himself a former Bayern Munich youth coach — and compete with Rasmus Højlund for the starting striker spot at United.

We wish him all the best!
