Masala row: Govt inspects facilities of spice makers, regulator says

NEW DELHI: Following the suspension of sales of certain products by spice makers MDH and Everest in Hong Kong and Singapore due to alleged high levels of a cancer-causing pesticide, the government has now initiated inspections of their facilities to ensure compliance with quality standards.The spices export regulator has confirmed that inspections are underway at the facilities of MDH and Everest to verify adherence to regulatory standards.The move comes as a response to concerns raised regarding the quality of spices produced by these companies.In a statement, the spices export regulator said that they are collaborating with the companies to identify the root cause of the issue and propose corrective measures. This proactive approach aims to address any potential lapses in quality control and safeguard consumer health.Additionally, the regulator has reached out to relevant authorities in Singapore and Hong Kong to obtain data on exports from MDH and Everest.
