Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s directed web series Heeramandi has been something of a game-changer for many of its actors and Taha Shah Badussha has been one of them.
And Taha being Taha, he kept calling me saying he wanted to be a part of Heeramandi, he was in touch with me for a long while.
He asked me to audition Taha for Tajdar,” Shruti added.
Later, Shruti also shared how Taha felt let down when he was told that his audition for the character role wasn’t working for them.
He had even spoken about how emotional he got when he bagged the part in the Sanjay Leela Bhansali show.

The actor essayed the lead role of Tajdar Baloch in the show. Now, the show’s casting director Shruti Mahajan has shared details on how Taha felt let down when he was initially rejected for another role he had auditioned for in Heeramandi, and how he finally got the role of Tajdar.

Sharing details on how Taha’s casting happened, Shruti told Bollywood Life, “Taha was cast through multiple rounds of auditions. And Taha being Taha, he kept calling me saying he wanted to be a part of Heeramandi, he was in touch with me for a long while. Initially, I asked Taha if he would like to audition for a character part and he said, Aap mera audition lekar Mr Bhansali ko dikha do bas (You just take my audition and show it to Mr Bhansali).”
“He did some sort of magic in the auditions that Mr Bhansali loved. He asked me to audition Taha for Tajdar,” Shruti added. Later, Shruti also shared how Taha felt let down when he was told that his audition for the character role wasn’t working for them. She shared, “I called him up and told him that the character role was not working for him, and he, being full of drama, started saying how he has struggled for years and now he is not even getting a part like this. ‘Mera luck hi kharab he,’ he mentioned. Then I told him that there was another part, if he would like to audition for, we had multiple rounds of auditions and look tests for Tajdar and the rest is history.”

She feels it was Taha’s hard work, persistence, and sincerity that got him this role. Earlier in several interviews, Taha also mentioned how he had initially auditioned for the role of Balram in Heermandi and was later locked in to play Tajdar. He had even spoken about how emotional he got when he bagged the part in the Sanjay Leela Bhansali show.
Other than Taha, Heeramandi also stars Manisha Koirala, Fardeen Khan, Richa Chadha, Shekhar Suman, Sanjeeda Sheikh, Adhyayan Suman, Aditi Rao Hydari, Farida Jalal, Jason Shah, Sonakshi Sinha, Sharmin Segal, and Indresh Malik in important roles.
