Mumbai Court refuses to stay release of Hindi film Maidaan

A vendor who had supplied camera for the shooting, Meherafrin Investments Private Limited (MIPL), approached the Mumbai City Civil Court at Dindoshi in a commercial suit against the producers of the film, Byaview Projects LLP and Boney Kapoor. It sought an injunction on the release of the film on account of unpaid dues of ₹64,59,577. MIPL claimed that ₹1,07,21,930 was pending to be paid though it was assured that the amounts would be cleared prior to the release. It filed a suit claiming unpaid dues of ₹64,59,577 along with interest at the rate of 21 percent. Till the payment is not cleared, MIPL sought interim reliefs under Order 38 Rule 5 (attachment of property before disposal of suit) of the Code of Civil Procedure and an injunction against the release of film.
