Mumbai court sentences Chhota Rajan to life imprisonment in 2001 murder case

Shetty was the owner of the hotel 'Golden Crown' in South Mumbai, and allegedly faced extortion threats from Rajan's gang. Due to such threats, Shetty was provided with security cover by the Mumbai Police. However, two months prior to his murder, the security had been withdrawn. Shetty had purportedly failed to pay the extortion amount and was shot dead outside his office on the first floor of the hotel on May 4, 2001.
